Monday Re-Cap :: Karaoke with the Kings:

Okay, so for Monday, B had a special karaoke event planned at this swank li'l club in Mountain View (yeah, I didn't know where that was, either....) for Monday night.

For those of you who don't know, he's an Elvis impersonator, and this bar is called the King of Clubs. It's a very ol' skool joint that's very comfy, got a dance floor, and from what I gather, a very devoted clientele. So.. the King was playing at the King on Monday! No! The irony is not lost on Russet!

We got back from SF to B's house much later than planned, and bang, here it was like quarter to 8, and he was supposed to be on stage at 8... whoo boy... a bit faded from a night full of dancing and contact highs all around (let's just leave it at that, shall we?) meant that the trio of King B, Space Boy and Johnny Atom (my karaoke name) weren't moving at the light speed that Russet is used to in the Fire-Optikon Seven conduit system. and B had to pull the whole Wonder Woman spin thang in order to get into Elvis gear (replete with black pompadour wig and a cape!)

Anyhoo, we did manage to trundle over the threshold at the King of Clubs not too too much later, where I was pleased to see a joint that still had vinyl booths! All lounges should have vinyl booths! (There oughtta be a law.) After meeting and greeting, and pounding Rock Stars (please read into that what you will) we settled to filling out a dozen or so leaves of paper to submit to Mighty Bruce, the Karaoke Master (looks like a member of ZZ Top, too!) for King B's "set." Of course, everyone loves Elvis... though I think they liked it even better when B took off his shirt and just paraded around in the cape, kinda like some gladiator of old. I didn't poll the gang to see if this was the case, but the one straight guy there did say he'd take off his own shirt if B danced with him, so.... yeah it went over well.

Turns out that Monday night is also "suicide Karaoke" night, which means ya sign up, and have to sing whatever song comes up for ya.

The crowd was small, but committed to the event. Good times, good times. Nice to see a group of people who ain't shy about putting themselves out there and sangin'. And most of them were pretty dang good! I like to think I can sing! When it comes down to it, though, I don't really know a whole lotta songs to sing... let's put it this way, my signature phrase for the evening was: "We're goin' down in flames, baby!"

Space Boy, unfortunately, did not sing, but he has promised to return and wow the crowd "next time." And I'm making him stick to it. (Space Boy is featured in my photo album in the Donny Scorpio pictures.)

hmmm... I think I might have too many secret identities....

    Intimate and magic
    that's how I'd describe it.

I definitely felt like a ROCK StAR going from gig to gig. The whole thing was a bit of a whirlwind for me,
    "over-stimula-enebriation",
but from what I remember I managed to stay on my feet (except of course when I was jumping off the stage at the kocbar)

Special thanks to Ernie for being my personal groomer and costume consultant...
To Matty and John for being my backup dancers, body guards, personal assistants, drivers, and so much more...
To Nick for pulling it all together so we could fall apart together...
and to Scotty for selling himself at the Eagle
(I'm still not sure how he got talked out his shirt...
    "discuss amongst yourselves")
And last but not least, to James and Bruce for letting King B and friends have their "special time" at the King of Clubs.

I'll definitely try to get the word out a little sooner so I can try to catch more of you next time, but now onto....

Thanks again to everyone for coming with me on this little adventure...

I have one picture of Scotty with his shirt off at the Eagle while he's on the chopping block, but I can't get it out of my phone cuz I'm a cheap ass bastard and won't pay for the phonepicturemail service.

Did anyone else get pictures of Scotty?
